Flying People

from $50.00

My Bulgarian friend Maria, with whom we often talk about art, literature and spiritual symbolism, jokingly told me that she considers me as one of the flying type of people, like the storks, that come and go every year. She asked me to create something on that theme, so when I was leaving Bulgaria, at the Sofia airport in August 2017, I started drawing people, grounded on Earth and those flying in the air. It was a time of great challenge for my mother and me, not knowing that two weeks later, I had to come back to Bulgaria to spend five months with her, suffering and dying.

Now, contemplating the picture, I can see the literal and spiritual aspect of it. Indeed, there are those transient types of people that come and go by physical traveling. Yet, on another spiritual dimension, the flying people are those that have departed our material life realm, our diseased friends and relatives. They are alive and connected with us, we all are one whole being, nourished by God the Creator. The Creator appears on the top of the picture, looking down and providing a shelter with His spread out hands.
